Israeli High-Tech Takes on Hamas Tunnels

Why do Hamas tunnels keep caving in? Is it only due to heavy rain and work accidents, or has Israel solved the problem of those Hamas tunnels being excavated under the border from inside Gaza? More of those tunnels have mysteriously caved-in recently - five in the past three weeks. According to Hamas, twelve of its members have been killed under the rubble. (Yes, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has admitted publicly that his men are tunneling night and day with the aim of launching terror attacks against civilians and IDF soldiers just over the border).

U.S. & Britain hack into Israel's Top Secret Drone Operations

From a mountaintop in nearby Cyprus, American and British cyber spies have been hacking into Israel's most closely guarded secrets for years. In a startling expose, the Intercept website has revealed a joint American-British operation 'to steal a bird's-eye-view' of Israeli drone operations. Not only that, they are also monitoring any Israeli preparations for a military strike against Iran's nuclear sites. This is how Intercept described what one Israeli has deemed as the gravest penetration of Israel's 'holiest of holies':

"American and British Intelligence secretly tapped into live video feeds from Israeli drones and fighter jets monitoring military operations in Gaza, watching for a potential strike against Iran, and keeping tabs on the drone technology Israel exports around the world."

Netanyahu Outlines a New Strategy after Iranian Nuclear Deal

In Davos, Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu charted a new course. In a memorable interview with Fareed Zekaria, Netanyahu stressed that new clandestine ties with the Sunni Arab countries will supersede a solution to the Palestinian issue:

'There is a great shift taking place - we used to think that if we solved the Israeli-Palestinian conflict it would solve the larger Israeli-Arab conflict. The more I look at it, the more I think it may be the other way round. That by nurturing these relationships that are taking place now with the Arab world, that could actually help us resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and we're actually working towards that end'.

Iran's Realpolitik & U.S. Sailors

The symbolism was stark. Just days before Washington was due to lift billions of dollars of sanctions on Tehran, the Iranians humiliated ten American sailors who were forced to their knees with their hands behind their heads in submission. The photos from the Persian Gulf were flashed around the world showing who is boss in the Persian Gulf. Just hours later, U.S. President Barack Obama ignored the ignominious incident in his last speech to the nation. On the contrary, he lauds the nuclear deal with Iran. And his Secretary of State, John Kerry, even thanks his Iranian counter-part, Javad Zarif, for the subsequent release of the wayward sailors.

Saudi Arabia-Turkey-Israel Alliance Against Iran?

IsraCast assesses what might soon emerge in light of Iran's ascendancy that has been bolstered by its nuclear deal with the U.S. and what is perceived as Obama's deference to Tehran in Riyadh. At home, the terror attack that killed two Israelis in the center of Tel Aviv leaves some key unanswered questions.

Jerusalem was aware of American spying operation

The U.S. spies on Israel - so what else is new? If U.S. President Obama spied on German Chancellor Merkel and French President Hollande, Prime Minister Netanyahu should be proud to be included in such an august group. Besides, didn't Israel and the U.S. team up to spy on Iran's nuclear program and unleash the Stuxnet virus that derailed it in 2011? With advanced cybernetics and hi-tech, it's only natural that nations, having the capability, will employ it to protect and advance their national interests.

Israeli-Turkish Delight while Amano whitewashes Iran

Jerusalem and Ankara are reportedly on their way to signing a 'memorandum of understanding’ at secret talks held in Switzerland. If so, it could not have come at a better time. In the midst of the EU's branding of Israeli products from West Bank settlements and the BDS campaign being mounted against the Jewish state, Israel will have scored a major strategic coup with Turkey. However, government sources in Jerusalem caution that 'it's not over until it's over’ and Erdogan is known to be very unpredictable. Just ask Russia's President Putin. But if two of the strongest states in the region are about to bury the hatchet, it is unlikely they will restore their former alliance that was the most powerful in the Middle East.

OBAMA & RIVLIN - TRUTH ABOUT U.S.-ISRAELI RELATIONS

When Barack Obama and Israel's President, Reuven Rivlin, lit Chanukah candles in the Oval Office, they also cast some light on the truth about the U.S. -Israeli relationship. In the past, much was made about the 'bad blood' between Obama and Netanyahu - Barack Hussein Obama was a closet anti-Semite, although most of his closest friends and advisers were Jewish. On the other hand, a close aide to Obama even accused Bibi of coming close to using the N-word! The Obama-Rivlin meeting has gutted these assumptions. At the same time, it has revealed some underling truths about the Obama-Netanyahu feud over the last nearly seven years. Obama and Bibi simply had different perceptions of what policies they wanted to follow after identifying what their voters would support. Naturally, they were democratically elected.

What if Yitzhak Rabin had not been assassinated?

What if Israeli Prime Minister had not been assassinated after that peace rally on Nov.15th, 1995? Would Israel now be living at peace with the state of Palestine on the West Bank and Gaza Strip? Did Yigal Amir, the Right Wing Israeli killer, change the course of history?

Of course, there is no way of knowing. But it is possible to examine what has happened since that cursed night. Today over 90% of Israelis can tell you exactly what they were doing when they heard the news. A night when Israel's vaunted Shabak Security Service failed abysmally to prevent the assassin, armed with a revolver, from casually walking up and firing three shots into Rabin's back while a couple of his body-guards looked on in disbelief - Jews aren't supposed to assassinate their leaders! (The bullets were hollow-point to increase the damage and Rabin never had a chance.

Where should Israel go from here?

"What would you do in New York, Washington, London or Paris if terrorists were attacking people in the streets with knives and meat cleavers? Your policemen would act immediately to prevent it, and that's what Israeli policemen and doing now!"

That was Netanyahu's response to the insinuation by U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby:

"We have seen some reports of (Israel's) security activity that could indicate the potential excessive use of force."

Obama & Netanyahu embark on damage control

Obama - let bygones be bygones...

Barack Obama won, Bibi Netanyahu lost - so what happens now? After fighting a rear guard action to the bitter end, the Israeli leader finally threw in the towel. After forging the nuclear deal with Iran, the U.S. President will apparently be able to depart the White House in another 17 months with his grand strategy intact - no new American military involvement in the Middle East (or anywhere else for that matter). The Ayatollahs in Iran have emerged with a win-win victory. They have simply put their nuclear weapons program temporarily in mothballs and will now cash in with a bonanza of hundreds of billions of dollars.

Obama claims victory in Iranian nuclear dispute

It's all over! There was no mistaking President Barack Obama's 'magnanimous in victory' appearance on his live webcast to America's Jewish community leaders. Just a few days go Obama had called 'crazies' those opponents who were still bucking his controversial deal with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. What happened? After more Democratic Senators signed on, it ruled out the attempt to kill the deal in Congress. So the President has now declared he is ready to bury the hatchet with Israel’s Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu:

"We're all pro-Israel... the (U.S.) commitment to Israel is sacrosanct, non- partisan and always will be!"

The Iranian nuclear deal for dummies

The first thing to understand about the Great Powers nuclear deal with Tehran is that it is designed to permit US President Barack Obama to exit the White House in January 2017 without having to use American military force against Iran. Otherwise the nuclear accord makes no sense. It is becoming more and more apparent that the accord lacks the teeth to convince Iran that it will pay an intolerable price if it crosses the nuclear threshold in the future. Dennis Ross, a former presidential adviser, contends that Washington must clarify this will spark a military response. In addition to a more aggressive posture, the US should even supply Israel with bunker busters and aircraft capable of destroying nuclear weapons targets. Ross makes no bones about it. Washington should inform Tehran that if she starts enriching uranium above the agreed limit, this would trigger an American military strike. But the opposite is happening.

Vienna Nuclear Accord viewed from Jerusalem

President Barack Obama has succeeded - he wanted to kick the can down the road to his successor and apparently he's done it. The last chance to block the Iranian nuclear deal is now in the hands of the US Senate where only a special 67-seat majority can override Obama's presidential veto. Although it comes as no surprise, the Vienna nuclear agreement is still mind-boggling. Seventy years after the Holocaust of six million Jews in Europe by Nazi Germany, the Jewish state of Israel could face a nuclear Holocaust if the Ayatollahs in Tehran are not stopped from acquiring A-Bombs. Yet, there is no limit to the utter disdain that is being hurled at Israel for not welcoming this flawed fiasco that will leave Iran as a threshold nuclear power in the Middle East.

US Gen. David Petraeus assails Iranian Nuclear Deal

Now Gen (ret.) David Petraeus, an eminent American military leader, has joined a chorus of critics who have assessed President Barack Obama's proposed nuclear deal with Iran. They are alarmed by what is emerging. Petraeus, a former CIA Director and Commander in Iraq, concurs with other former top administration officials who warn:

"The agreement will not prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapons capability. It will not require the dismantling of Iran's nuclear infrastructure." Read More...

Israel should defend Druze from IS onslaught in Syria

Israel is facing a major moral and strategic dilemma - whether or not to defend the hundreds of thousands of Druze civilians in Syria who are now under dire threat from the relentless advance of the Islamic State. Make no mistake, the Druze are strong supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad, a bitter enemy of Israel. Several weeks ago, a Druze terror squad even tried to carry out a cross-border attack against Israel on the Golan Heights. When Israel annexed part of the Golan Heights after the Six-Day War in 1967, the Druze inside that area returned their Israeli identity cards and pledged allegiance to President Hafez Assad in Damascus. However, his son, Bashar Assad has abandoned them now by pulling the Syrian Army out of the Druze regions in order to strengthen Damascus and his Alawite enclave along the Mediterranean coast.

MAYBE IT'S TIME TO RESTRICT SETTLEMENT BUILDING AGAIN

US President Barack Obama has given Israel's leader Bibi Netanyahu an ultimatum - offer a concession to the Palestinian peace process or the US won't block new anti-Israeli resolutions at the UN General Assembly this fall. This was the gist of Obama's warning to the Israeli people when he was interviewed on Channel 2 TV.

ISRAEL IN CROSSHAIRS OF ISIS

Is Israel now in the crosshairs of ISIS? Ansar al-Maqdis, an affiliate of ISIS in Sinai has posted a warning on its web site threatening to carry out a 'mega-terror attack on Eilat in the coming days'. Eilat is Israel's port on the Red Sea, which is also a very popular tourist town. The al-Maqdis terrorists, who are now engaged in a bloody war with the Egyptian Army, have sworn allegiance to ISIS and are obviously taking their orders from Islamic State. Channel 1 TV opened its evening newscast with three reports on the possible threat. A senior IDF commander in Eilat said his forces are always prepared to cope with suicide bombers or attempts to crash through Israel's security fence along the Sinai border. The Israeli Air Force and Navy are also on round the clock standby to meet attacks from sea or the air. In the past, al-Maqdis has launched several rockets at Eilat. Recently Islamic State has included the Sinai Peninsula into its proposed caliphate, naming it as the 'Sinai Province'.

OBAMA'S HYPOCRISY TOWARD ISRAEL

"It smacks of a pinch of hypocrisy" - that was the first official Israeli reaction. It was directed at U.S. President Barack Obama, who told the Atlantic Magazine that he would punish Israel diplomatically for Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's election rhetoric about 'no two-two state solution on his watch' and how 'Israeli Arab voters were flocking to the polls in buses'. Hanegbi, who chairs the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, noted that Obama ignored Iran's human rights violations such as executing more people than any other state in the world. This also applied to Turkey, which holds the international record for jailing journalists.
