Is Israel at Center of New Middle East?

The French are at it again. Nearly one hundred years to the day after France concluded the notorious Sykes-Picot agreement with the Brits, and Paris has once more come to the fore in the Middle East by convening an international conference to deal with the Israeli- Palestinian dispute.

Why Obama & Trump are Two Sides of the Same Foreign Policy Coin

As strange as it seems, President Barack Obama and Republican contender Donald Trump actually see eye-to-eye on America's new international role. Both are ‘American Firsters’. After the Bush era that squandered much blood and treasure in the Middle East, the American foreign policy pendulum has swung the other way. Not total isolationism, but in line with public opinion in the US today. It is a more Machiavellian approach or cost-benefit analysis when it comes to America's vital interests.

Curing the Cancer of Daesh

'You ain't seen nothin’ yet!' This was the message of the Daesh video released two days after the horrific bombings in Brussels. Basking in its latest bloodbath, the Muslim maniacs warned that Britain or maybe Spain are now in its crosshairs. But bear in mind that the Brits have learned their lesson since the deadly al Qaeda attack on London in 2005, and have prevented several more attempts. MI-5 & 6 are reportedly on the ball. But Britain may only be a 'false flag' in order to catch some other European capital off-guard. In any case, it's a safe bet that now energized after its latest 'success' in Brussels, Daesh is now planning for its next victim.

Tsar Vladimir - Kingmaker in Syria

'I came, I bombed, now I'm kingmaker of Syria!' Russian President Vladimir Putin is now calling the shots in what is left of the former Syrian state left in ruins after five years of a horrific bloodbath. All the sides, except for the Russians, are now trying to catch their breath in the current cease-fire, while the negotiators have gathered in Geneva seeking some way forward. It was the massive Russian air strikes, which started suddenly five months ago and ended just as surprisingly this week, that have halted the internecine warfare.

Global Warming, San Bernardino & Daesh

While over 190 world leaders gathered for the global warning conference in Paris, the planet was boiling over in more ways than one. The gathering in Paris, the city whose lights were dimmed by the Daesh atrocity, has been followed by San Bernardino. No, there is still no proof that Syed Farook acted on Daesh orders, but after the Paris attacks Daesh warned that 'Washington' would be next on its hit list. Bear this in mind: the late Dov Yinon, an eminent Israeli expert on Arab affairs, said that whenever some Muslims are exhilarated by a successful terror attack, they dream about also carrying out such acts. This could very well be what happened with Syed Farook, and the FBI is now checking back on his possible 'radical' connections. In the meantime, Daesh has praised the San Bernardino attack, some calling the killers 'Lions who have made us proud!'

What if Yitzhak Rabin had not been assassinated?

What if Israeli Prime Minister had not been assassinated after that peace rally on Nov.15th, 1995? Would Israel now be living at peace with the state of Palestine on the West Bank and Gaza Strip? Did Yigal Amir, the Right Wing Israeli killer, change the course of history?

Of course, there is no way of knowing. But it is possible to examine what has happened since that cursed night. Today over 90% of Israelis can tell you exactly what they were doing when they heard the news. A night when Israel's vaunted Shabak Security Service failed abysmally to prevent the assassin, armed with a revolver, from casually walking up and firing three shots into Rabin's back while a couple of his body-guards looked on in disbelief - Jews aren't supposed to assassinate their leaders! (The bullets were hollow-point to increase the damage and Rabin never had a chance.

Vienna Nuclear Accord viewed from Jerusalem

President Barack Obama has succeeded - he wanted to kick the can down the road to his successor and apparently he's done it. The last chance to block the Iranian nuclear deal is now in the hands of the US Senate where only a special 67-seat majority can override Obama's presidential veto. Although it comes as no surprise, the Vienna nuclear agreement is still mind-boggling. Seventy years after the Holocaust of six million Jews in Europe by Nazi Germany, the Jewish state of Israel could face a nuclear Holocaust if the Ayatollahs in Tehran are not stopped from acquiring A-Bombs. Yet, there is no limit to the utter disdain that is being hurled at Israel for not welcoming this flawed fiasco that will leave Iran as a threshold nuclear power in the Middle East.

International Holocaust Memorial Day

The Holocaust, the largest genocide recorded in modern history, resulted in the systematic murder of approximately six million Jews and five million non-Jews (including Gypsies, Poles, communists, homosexuals, Soviet POWs, and the mentally and physically disabled) at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators. The Holocaust wiped out two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population, which had once been nine million, cementing itself as a shameful stain upon the fabric history; while World War II (which involved over 30 countries and more than 100 million people) resulted in between 50-85 million casualties and is remembered as the deadliest conflict in human history.

ISLAMIC STATE & TURKISH GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS

What do Jimmy Carter, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and BBC reporters have in common? Either they don't like, or in fact hate Israel. Look at their recent comments on the cause of the recent Muslim terror attacks in Paris:

When Jon Stewart asked Carter if religion played a role in the Paris atrocities, Carter replied:

'One of the origins for it is the Palestinian problem, and this aggravates people who are affiliated in any way with the Arab people who live in the West Bank and Gaza - what they're doing now - what's being done to them. So I think that's part of it'.

NETANYAHU WARNS OBAMA ON ISIL-IRAN DEAL

Keep your eye on the Iranian ball! Don't win the war on ISIL and lose the war to a nuclear Iran! This was the most telling message in Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's address to the UN General Assembly in New York. Obviously Israel's leader is worried about reports the US and the rest of the 5P+1 may offer Tehran an easing of the nuclear sanctions, if the Iranians join the coalition against Islamic State. He did not pull any punches:

'The Islamic Republic (Iran) is now trying to bamboozle its way to an agreement that will remove the sanctions it still faces, and leave it with the capacity of thousands of centrifuges to enrich uranium. This would effectively cement Iran's place as a threshold nuclear power. In the future, at a time of its choosing, Iran, the world's most dangerous state in the world's most dangerous region, would obtain the world's most dangerous weapons'.

GAZA CEASEFIRE EXPECTED TO HOLD

7:48 AM-August 5th, two minutes before the latest Egyptian brokered ceasefire was to go into force: Hamas launches a barrage of 25 more rockets at Jerusalem and communities in central Israel. Again, air raid sirens wail and hundreds of thousands of Israelis rush to their bomb shelters. Israel's Iron Dome missiles blast off, knocking seven of the incoming rockets out of the sky. They were on target for population centers. Several others do explode on the ground but there are no Israeli casualties. The rest are allowed to land harmlessly in open areas. Imagine how many Israeli children, women and men would have been killed and wounded if those seven rockets had hit apartment buildings. This has been at the core of the current conflagration and the IDF's mission to suppress this rocketing of Israeli civilians that has escalated ever since Israel totally evacuated the Gaza Strip in 2005. The IDF estimates that Hamas terrorists fired 3,350 rockets during its 26-day Operation that was triggered by hundreds more rockets in the preceding week. Yet critics of Israel, including some foreign governments, are castigating the Jewish state for not acting proportionately to the Hamas threat.

ISRAEL'S 'AGE OF EXTREMES'

"I gave the money to Ehud and he counted the bills, he used it to buy suits and cigars." This graphic description by Shula Zaken, Olmert's right hand woman, nailed the final nail in the coffin of the former PM. In her court appearance, she gave testimony, after which Judge David Rosen sentenced Olmert to six years in the slammer. Forget about the Palestinian issue and the Iranian nuclear threat - Israel has been pre-occupied by the Olmert saga, and for more than one reason. Not only have Israelis been shocked over Olmert's fall from the highest pinnacle to the lowest ignominy, and his exposure as a greedy, scheming politician.

ISRAEL CELEBRATES 66th INDEPENDENCE DAY

The past week started with Holocaust Memorial Day and yet again the profound horror and amazement over the Nazi massacre of six million Jewish babies, children, women and men. The vast majority were defenseless and with no one to defend them. The tales of terror told by the survivors who bore witness were paralyzing: crying infants being torn from the arms of their screaming mothers at Auschwitz, of children seeing their parents being beaten and shot before their very eyes. At the memorial service at the Western Wall, President Shimon Peres told of how his beloved grandfather and other relatives, along with the rest of the Jews in his town, were herded into the local synagogue where the doors were locked behind them and then the building was burnt to the ground. The sirens wailed for them and Israelis, with heads bowed, stood at attention.

Eichmann's Prosecutor Gideon Hausner

How did prosecutor Gideon Hausner view his role in prosecuting Nazi criminal Adolph Eichmann who supervised the systematic murder of six million Jews in Europe? What impact did the Jerusalem trial in 1961 have on the Jewish survivors who had to recall their torment when testifying in court? In this exclusive interview with Martha Deane of WOR TV on 1966, Gideon Hausner talked freely about his experience and the trial's impact on the victims. IsraCast presents this dramatic interview by courtesy of Advocate Tami Hausner- Raveh, the daughter of  Gideon Hausner.

NOVEMBER 29th - ISRAEL & PALESTINIANS: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

NOV. 29th is one of the most monumental dates in the history of the Jewish people. On this day in 1947, the UN General Assembly approved the Partition Plan for Palestine that was to be implemented after the termination of the British mandate. It called for the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states and heralded the rebirth of a Jewish state in its ancient homeland of over three thousand years. Similarly, it granted for the first time a Palestinian state. Designated Resolution 181, it was immediately accepted by the Jews but categorically rejected by the Arabs who later launched an all out war to literally drive the Jews into the Sea! If the Arab states had also accepted the partition there would have been no refugee problem - Palestinian or Jewish. An estimated 650,000 Palestinian refugees fled their homes while at least that number of Jewish refugees were driven out of the neighboring Arab countries. The resolution was carried by a vote of 33 in favor, 13 opposed, 10 abstentions and one member was absent. On the anniversary of that vote, you are invited to listen to this background report by David Essing that includes authentic recordings of the events as they unfolded:

REMEMBERING YITZHAK RABIN AMID ISRAEL'S CURRENT CRISES

How would former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin have perceived the two crises facing Israel today, the Iranian nuclear threat and the peace process with the Palestinians? Two days before his assassination on Nov. 4, 1995, Rabin saw 'separation with the Palestinians as the only permanent solution' and he had no inkling that Right wing fanatic Yigal Amir was planning to shoot him. On the other hand, Israeli intelligence had ascertained that the Iranian regime had started out on a determined drive to acquire nuclear weapons. Today, eighteen years later, Iran is very close to reaching its goal, although nothing is known about what was achieved this week during the two days of nuclear talks in Geneva between Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany. The Israeli public is also deep in the dark over what Justice Minister Tzipi Livni has negotiated with Palestinian official Saeb Erekat in their closed-door negotiations.

PM Netanyahu's speech at Bar Ilan University

I recently read a hundred-page book by a wonderful American historian who passed away nearly 50 years ago. His name was Will Durant and he wrote many books. He wrote an eleven volume history of civilization, but at the end of his life, he wrote a hundred-page book, The Lessons of History. You should read it. Every line is carved from the stone of truth, and I will give you the bad news and the good news.

The bad news is that when you finish reading this book, you understand that in history, greater numbers rule. They matter. But here is the good news. On page 17, if I am not mistaken, he mentions that there may be exceptions to this rule and that through the unification of a cultural force, that's what he called it, the odds could be overcome. He gives the State of Israel as an example of such an exception.

OBAMA'S DECISION TO DELAY STARTLES ISRAEL

Total astonishment - that's been the reaction in Israel to US President Barack Obama's surprise announcement that he is delaying any possible attack on Syria at least until after September 9th. The question being asked is whether Obama was trying to buy time by seeking Congressional approval, although he said he didn't need it. Could Obama be backing out of his pledge to confront the Assad regime in Syria for the chemical weapons attack that killed an estimated 1429 civilians on August 21? After Assad had again crossed Obama's red line on chemical weapons, politicians and pundits were certain that Obama had no choice but to react with a swift, punitive strike on Syria. Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu immediately ordered an official blackout so as to prevent Israel bashers in the U.S. from accusing Israel of influencing the Obama administration to launch a military strike. But nearly all media commentators were of the view that Assad had gone too far and the signals from Washington were that it was not a matter of if, but when Obama would give the order.
