EGYPT - APPEARANCES & REALITY

When it comes to understanding Egypt today, U.S. President Barack Obama and other Western leaders really don't get it. They are confusing the outcome of an indecisive election with the reality of the anti-democratic Muslim Brotherhood hijacking the Egyptian Revolution in order to found an Islamist state like Iran. These are some of the key questions that America and the West should be addressing:

WILL BIBI NETANYAHU BE ISRAEL'S CHARLES DE GAULLE?

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu is known to be a great admirer of Winston Churchill, who led Britain's battle for survival against Nazi Germany. However on the eve of the negotiations with the Palestinians in Washington, Netanyahu may be signaling that he may be about to follow in the footsteps of France's Charles de Gaulle, who against all the expectations, decided to relinquish French control of Algeria in order to end an extremely bloody war. Apparently, Netanyahu has crossed another milestone on his way to seeking a territorial compromise on the Land of Israel with the Palestinians.

IRAN & SYRIA - ISRAEL PLAYS IT COOL

Israel has reacted coolly to two new developments in the Middle East - the surprise victory of 'moderate' cleric Hassan Rohani in Iran's presidential election, and the U.S. decision to supply weapons to Syria's rebels. It's still early days and it remains to be seen how the situations will play out.

Netanyahu - Churchill or Cassandra?

Was this Prime Minister Netanyahu's last plea to the UN before Israel implements its last resort to prevent Iran from building its first atomic bombs? Israel's leader made his case and now it was now up to the free world's leader the next U.S. President, be it Obama or Mitt Romney. IsraCast Analyst David Essing has the impression that Netanyahu has had his say and will now wait out the winter as the nuclear clock keeps ticking.

Iran, Netanyahu & Roosevelt's 'Poised Rattlesnake'

What is at the core of the widening differences between U.S. President Barack Obama and Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in the Iranian nuclear crisis? The bad blood has apparently influenced Obama even to refrain from meeting Netanyahu during his visit to the U.S. for the current UN General Assembly session. In an interview with the Israeli 'Yisrael Today', Defense Minister Ehud Barak discussed how Jerusalem and Washington take a different view of the evolving situation. IsraCast analyst David Essing says it is not simply a matter of personality but of geopolitical perspective.

Iran's Smoking Guns?

'In-your- face!' - that is Iran's contemptuous response to international demands to come clean on its nuclear weapons project. Within a space of fourty-eight hours, the Iranians moved several hundred more uranium centrifuges into its underground site at Fordo, torpedoed the lastest round of nuclear talks with the IAEA and also been caught cleaning-up its suspected nuclear weapons research at Parchin. Analyst David Essing is of the view these Iranian steps will push Israel closer to the tipping point on a decision to attack Iran.

Israel, Turkey & Armenian Dilemma

Israel's government and her Parliament are at odds over whether the Jewish state should officially recognize Turkey's responsibility for the massacre of some one and a half million Armenians in 1915. In spite of appeals by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the Knesset's Education Committee discussed the issue but stopped short of voting on recognition. IsraCast analyst David Essing is of the view that with the Iranian nuclear crisis coming to a head in 2012, it is crucial that Israel will not cause any further deterioration in the already strained relations with Turkey.

Nobel Prizes, Mosque Burning & Rudy Giuliani

Israel's New Jewish Year kicked off amid jubilation over an Israeli scientist winning another Nobel Prize. But there was a dark down side; the country was shocked by the torching of a mosque in an Arab village in Galilee. And interviewed in Geneva by an Israeli newspaper former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani disclosed that he would decide, within a month or two, whether to again seek the Republican presidential nomination. Giuliani criticized U.S. Barack Obama's favoring the Palestinian Authority over Israel, noting that grass roots support for Israel is greater than ever.

Osama Bin Laden and Palestinians

Will the new Palestinian leadership stand up? Is it West Bank President Mahmoud Abbas, who condemns terrorism or Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniya, who conducts it? Their differing reactions to the U.S. 'targeted operation' that killed Al Qaida chief Osama Bin Laden illustrates the duplicitous attempt to combine the West Bank and Gaza leaderships without Hamas giving up its declared goal of killing Jews and restoring the land 'from the sea to the river' - in other words wiping Israel off the map. Analyst David Essing discusses some of the ramifications of the U.S. Navy Seals' targeted killing of OBL.

While Israel Sleeps!

In 1940, John F. Kennedy wrote a book on the rise of Nazi Germany entitled 'Why Europe Slept'. In 2006, Bruce Bawer described how radical Islam is destroying the West from within in his book 'While Europe Slept'. Now Yuval Diskin the chief of Israel's Shabak Security Service, has warned that the Palestinian Authority on the West Bank had launched a diplomatic war that it is winning against Israel. Obama And Netanyahu In Tests Of Leadership

The Israeli-Palestinian peace effort is still side-tracked after Israel' ten month moratorium on settlement building expired on Sept.26th. After refusing to conduct talks with Israel during the freeze, Pa;estinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas now demands the moratorium be further extended as a condition for returning to the table. Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said he would stick to his ten month commitment, the Obama administration has urged Israel to extend the moratorium and the issue is likely to be at the top of the agenda when Netanyahu meets with Vice-President Joe Biden when they meet in the U.S. IsraCast analyst David Essing assesses the impact of President Barack Obama's defeat in the U.S. mid-term elections and some of the implications for Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Ahmadinejad vs. Obama

At the UN General Assembly, U.S. President Barack Obama again appealed to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to walk through the 'door of diplomacy' to resolve the crisis over Iran's nuclear weapons project. Ahmadinejad was swift to respond; he charged that the U.S. government was responsible for the 9/11 terror atrocities. The two speeches were revealing - they exposed not only the sharp divergences in how the two leaders conduct their statecraft but also revealed totally different mindsets. IsraCast analyst David Essing is of the view that Ahmadinejad and the Iran regime will reject Obama's 'door of diplomacy'- they've already walked through the door of radical Islam.

In an exclusive report, the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot has exposed the sordid past of Judge Richard Goldstone, who has accused the Israel Defense Forces of possible crimes during the Cast Lead Operation into Gaza to halt eight years of Palestinian rocketing on Israeli civilians. Holocaust is the most heinous crime against modern humanity

Fellow Knesset members, there is no more natural an occurrence than for the Knesset and all its factions to unite and mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the day of liberation for the Auschwitz extermination camp. The forces of evil sent tens of millions of people - Jews, Soviets, Poles, Gypsies, and political rivals - to an awful death. This wasn't a simple death, but an industry of death, which was borne of an ideology of hate, racism, and ethnic cleansing.

Iran Passes Nuclear Weapons Threshold

This week, Israel officially revealed that Iran now has sufficient enriched uranium for proceeding with the production of at least one atomic bomb. The disclosure came from Brig.Gen. Yossi Bidatz, the commander of the research department in the IDF Intelligence Branch.
