YADLIN'S VISION FOR ISRAEL'S PEACE & SECURITY

The issues of security and economics are driving the current Israeli election campaign. Netanyahu and his ruling Likud party have the lead on security while Herzog and his Zionist Camp are coming on strong in the cost of living debate. However Amos Yadlin, Herzog's shadow defense minister, has just unveiled his approach, which is a far cry from Netanyahu's. In an interview with the Ynet website, Yadlin, a retired IDF general, pulled no punches in attacking Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon.

FIREWORKS ON GOLAN HEIGHTS AND IN WASHINGTON

It is the IDF's biggest build-up along the Syrian-Lebanese frontier since the Second Lebanon war in 2006. And with very good reason; according to foreign reports, an Israeli rocket attack killed Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of the Hezbollah's former Chief of Staff and Iranian General Muhammad Allahdadi. Ten other Iranian and Hezbollah fighters also died in the targeted killing. Jihad was obviously out to avenge the mysterious assassination of his famous father, Imad, in Damascus in 2008. Since then Hezbollah has been biding its time, warning it will make Israel pay for the killing of Mughniyeh senior.

FRANCE'S '9/11' IN PARIS

France is reeling and trying to come to grips with an Islamist terror attack that has rocked it to its very core. The cold-blooded killers who shot dead two policemen and then systematically executed the ten caricaturists and editors of the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly not only committed a massacre, but also dealt a severe blow to the very foundations of the French republic. It would appear to be on a lesser scale of the '9/11' atrocity that shocked America and the world more than thirteen years ago. The writing was on the wall, written in blood, for President Francois Hollande and the French government, after French Jihadists repeatedly attacked Jews in France and Brussels. However these were passed off as isolated incidents or carried out by 'deranged' individuals. But now the Jihadists have perpetrated a carefully planned slaughter that has wiped out a French magazine because it dared to lampoon the prophet Mohammed. In fleeing the scene, one of the killers casually walked up to a wounded policeman lying on the sidewalk and calmly shot him in the head. He then walked to the get away car and shouted:

'Allah is great', and 'We have avenged the prophet Mohammed!'

IRAN NOT BUDGING ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS CAPABILITY

Israel has breathed a collective sigh of relief. There is good news and bad news over the decision to extend the Nov. 24th deadline and negotiate on Iran's nuclear project for another seven months. The good news is that U.S. President Barack Obama and the other members of the 5P+1 have not agreed to a nuclear deal at any price - the bad news is they have acquiesced in Iran's stonewalling without increasing the sanctions. Iran's sweet-talking President Hassan Rouhani was more than pleased with the diplomatic outcome in Vienna:

"We have achieved a significant victory - the negotiations will lead to a deal, sooner or later."

And his boss, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that he would not budge in the upcoming round of negotiations:

"The American and European colonialist countries gathered and applied their entire efforts to bring the Islamic Republic to its knees, but they could not and will not."

ISRAEL - DESPERATE SITUATION REQUIRES DESPERATE REMEDIES

This was the message from Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, after two Palestinian terrorists, armed with a handgun and meat cleaver, ran into a Jerusalem synagogue and hacked and shot four Jewish worshippers to death and wounded eight other Israelis. This is what happened:

At approximately 7:AM, Jewish worshippers were in the middle of the early morning prayer of Shaharit at the Tehilat Yaakov synagogue in the religious neighborhood of Har Nof, when two young Palestinians drove up in their car, parked it nearby, and then ran unhindered into the synagogue. (Most public buildings in Israel have armed guards at the entrance but synagogues do not - no one thought that Palestinians would stoop to executing terror attacks on holy sites.) They immediately began shooting and hacking at the unsuspecting worshippers, who were already wrapped in their prayer shawls. Eyewitnesses later described how the killers moved from one victim to another, one terrorist was firing all the time, and the other was hacking victims with his big meat cleaver. All the while they were shouting 'Allah Akbar!'

KERRY TO THE RESCUE OF TEMPLE MOUNT

While there was sporadic Palestinian rioting elsewhere, U.S. Secretary John Kerry's mission to Amman has succeeded so far in dousing the flames that threatened to ignite a third Palestinian intifada (uprising). Credit where credit is due, and this time hats off to Kerry. Meeting first with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and then together with Israel's Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and Jordan's King Abdullah, Secretary Kerry was able to persuade the sides to take 'constructive steps, real steps, not rhetoric to de-escalate the situation'.

"Chickenshit" Netanyahu & Iranian Nuclear Weapons Crisis

Above and beyond the startling headlines about a senior Obama official calling Netanyahu "chickenshit", there is the far more important revelation by reporter Jeffrey Goldberg in his latest expose in the Atlantic magazine. A second senior Obama official agreed Netanyahu was a chickenshit not only in the Palestinian peace process, but also on the Iranian nuclear threat:

"The Obama administration no longer believes that Netanyahu would launch a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities in order to keep the regime in Tehran from building an atomic arsenal. It's too late for him to do anything. Two, three years ago, this was a possibility. But ultimately, he couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger - it was a combination of our pressure and his own unwillingness to do anything dramatic. Now it's too late."

OTTAWA, JERUSALEM, KOBANI & TEHRAN - CONNECT THE DOTS

Islamist terror struck within minutes in two separate world capitals, Ottawa and Jerusalem. It was a stark sign of the times that pits the militant Islam from over 1,400 years ago against everyone else: Christians, Jews, and other Muslims. Lone terrorists struck in Ottawa and Jerusalem, and Jihadist forces continue to threaten and massacre the remaining Muslim Kurds in the Syrian town of Kobani, while in Tehran it appears as if the ayatollahs have conned the U.S. into letting them keep their nuclear facilities for building A Bombs.

KERRY LINKS ISRAEL TO ISLAMIC STATE!

Returning home from the Cairo meeting to rebuild Gaza, the U.S. Secretary of State has hinted that Israel is partly to blame for the rise of Islamic State:

"There isn't a leader I met with in the region who didn't raise with me spontaneously the need to try and get peace between Israel and the Palestinians, because it was a cause for recruitment and street anger and agitation. People need to understand the connection of that, and it has something to do with humiliation, and denial, and absence of dignity."

KOBANI 'SLAUGHTER' WILL BE ON OBAMA'S HEAD

IS forces. An estimated 12,000 Kurds are surrounded in the town, and Anne Barnard, the New York Times correspondent in Istanbul, has raised the of their slaughter by IS. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the only two foreign leaders who could possibly prevent it, continue to wring their hands and refuse to take effective action. Nobody expects anything decent from Erdogan, who hates the Kurds for campaigning against Turkey for their independence, but Obama?? Despite the US President's vow to 'degrade and ultimately destroy' Islamic State forces, he has launched a few feeble air strikes against what appears to be the main IS thrust on Kobani. American officials have said the air attacks had knocked out several IS armored trucks, destroyed an IS unit, and damaged a tank. Is this all the damage the most powerful air force in the world could inflict on IS forces in the Kobani area?

NETANYAHU WARNS OBAMA ON ISIL-IRAN DEAL

Keep your eye on the Iranian ball! Don't win the war on ISIL and lose the war to a nuclear Iran! This was the most telling message in Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's address to the UN General Assembly in New York. Obviously Israel's leader is worried about reports the US and the rest of the 5P+1 may offer Tehran an easing of the nuclear sanctions, if the Iranians join the coalition against Islamic State. He did not pull any punches:

'The Islamic Republic (Iran) is now trying to bamboozle its way to an agreement that will remove the sanctions it still faces, and leave it with the capacity of thousands of centrifuges to enrich uranium. This would effectively cement Iran's place as a threshold nuclear power. In the future, at a time of its choosing, Iran, the world's most dangerous state in the world's most dangerous region, would obtain the world's most dangerous weapons'.

GEN. DEMPSEY COVERS HIS BUTT

The current chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff has this policy - he calls them as he sees them. Apparently he has serious doubts about President Barack Obama's strategy for defeating ISIL in Iraq and Syria by air power. And that is why Gen. Martin Dempsey has told Congress:

'If there are threats to the US, then I, of course, would go back to the President and make a recommendation that may include the use of US military ground forces'.

Predictably, Obama hit the roof. If Dempsey had opened the door to the military need for an eventual deployment of American 'boots on the ground', Obama slammed it shut. Appearing before American troops twenty-four hours later in Tampa, Florida hours later, the President declared unequivocally:

'The American forces that have been deployed to Iraq do not and will not have a combat mission'.

In an effort to drum up support for his newfound ISIL strategy, Obama noted that Britain and France were already flying missions over Iraq, and that Canada and Australia were sending military advisors.

AN ISRAELI 'APOLOGY' FOR GAZA

In light of the tsunami of criticism against Israel's defense against the Hamas rocketing blitz from Gaza, IsraCast has extended the following 'apology' to US President Barack Obama. According to the Wall Street Journal, Washington has suspended the delivery of Hellfire missiles to Israel in response to 'Israel not knowing its place' in the eyes of some U.S. officials. This then, is why Israel should 'apologize' for its military operations against Gaza:

GAZA CEASEFIRE EXPECTED TO HOLD

7:48 AM-August 5th, two minutes before the latest Egyptian brokered ceasefire was to go into force: Hamas launches a barrage of 25 more rockets at Jerusalem and communities in central Israel. Again, air raid sirens wail and hundreds of thousands of Israelis rush to their bomb shelters. Israel's Iron Dome missiles blast off, knocking seven of the incoming rockets out of the sky. They were on target for population centers. Several others do explode on the ground but there are no Israeli casualties. The rest are allowed to land harmlessly in open areas. Imagine how many Israeli children, women and men would have been killed and wounded if those seven rockets had hit apartment buildings. This has been at the core of the current conflagration and the IDF's mission to suppress this rocketing of Israeli civilians that has escalated ever since Israel totally evacuated the Gaza Strip in 2005. The IDF estimates that Hamas terrorists fired 3,350 rockets during its 26-day Operation that was triggered by hundreds more rockets in the preceding week. Yet critics of Israel, including some foreign governments, are castigating the Jewish state for not acting proportionately to the Hamas threat.

NETANYAHU GOT IT RIGHT IN GAZA

It is the mindset of the Palestinian terrorists – 'we exist to kill and wound Israelis and annihilate the Jewish state'. That is their credo, and why they split from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah movement that opposes terror. For the third time in six years, Hamas unleashed their heaviest barrage of rockets for seven straight days and nights. Granted, they sent millions of Israeli children, women and men dashing for bomb shelters, but at the time of the ceasefire proposal, they had not killed even one Israeli, and only a small number were injured.

ISRAEL DECIDES ON SEVERE BUT CALIBRATED CRACKDOWN ON HAMAS

'Hamas is responsible, Hamas will pay!' Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu has warned that Israel is about to take off the gloves, after the bodies of three Israeli youths were found near Hebron, a hotbed of Hamas terrorism on the West Bank. After the massive 18-day search, the bodies of Naftali Fraenkel, Gil-ad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach were uncovered in a hole. Two suspected Hamas terrorists from the Hebron area, named as Marwan Kawasme and Amer Abu Aysha, are believed responsible. The manhunt continues for the two suspects, who are believed to be hiding out in the West Bank. Apparently, pretending to be religious Jews, the two killers gave a lift to the three hitchhiking Israelis and then shot them dead when Gil-ad Shaar tried to contact the Israel police on his cell phone. A police recording of the call indicates all three were shot dead in the car where bullet casings were found.

CRACKS IN NETANYAHU'S COALITION

Israel now faces international isolation - that is what Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu's diplomacy has achieved on the Palestinian track. Make no mistake, this has all the components of weakening Israel's international position and could eventually topple his coalition government. First the PM lost the 'blame game' to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by letting Housing Minister Uri Ariel announce plans for building new housing units on the disputed West Bank.  U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry pointed the finger at Netanyahu. Adding insult to injury, Abbas then gambled that he could join forces with terrorist Hamas and this would not upset the U.S. and the rest of the international community. He proved to be right...

NETANYAHU MUST CHOOSE ISRAEL'S NATIONAL INTEREST

 Israel in diplomatic doghouse...

Is Israel's Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu getting the message? His interview with the Bloomberg News may indicate that Netanyahu realizes that he has lost the 'blame game' in the wake of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's failed peace mission. Not only Kerry and diplomat Martin Indyk pointed the finger at Bibi, but also President Barack Obama. Even Bibi's own negotiator, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, has blasted Housing Minister Uri Ariel for torpedoing the talks by announcing plans for new settlement building. At the time, the PM could have stepped in but chose not to do so in order not to rile the Right-wingers in his coalition. Israel finds itself in the diplomatic doghouse, although Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas did nothing to advance Kerry's peace mission and has even teamed up with terrorist Hamas.

WHY ABBAS DID IT

What possessed moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to suddenly join forces with Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, whose organization is bent on Israel's annihilation? As for the timing, it was even more puzzling - it came smack in the middle of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's apparent breakthrough in the clash between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu over the release of Israeli-Arab terrorists. The latest Abbas gambit has exposed the Palestinian leader's goal of seeking an imposed UN solution, rather than a U.S. brokered peace accord.

MOSHE KAHLON - ISRAEL'S FUTURE PRIME MINISTER?

Could Moshe Kahlon, who is barely known outside of Israel, become a future prime minister? Who knows? It's a long shot, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. The Likud Cabinet minister achieved immense popularity and prestige in the former Netanyahu government, but then dropped a bombshell by refusing to run in the last election in January 2013. At the time, Kahlon turned down the pleas of the Likud and Netanyahu, saying he wanted some time off from politics. After attending an advanced course at Harvard for foreign administrators, Kahlon has returned to Israel and to Israeli politics. The affable and soft Kahlon has now sounded a political war cry that is likely to shake up the next election campaign when it comes around. If Kahlon does decide to make a serious bid to run for the premiership, it will be the first time a Mizrachi Jew has done so, and that could have an important impact on traditional voting patterns in Israel. (Mizrachi Jews hail from Middle East countries, and Ashkenazi Jews are from Europe or Americas).
